A Rehabilitation, Release & Educational Facility

An Album of our Favorite Squirrel Photos

WCSV cares for over 600 squirrels each year. Many come in as orphaned babies, and they need a great deal of care by our dedicated volunteers.

Occasionally, we receive full-grown adult squirrels that have been injured. The trick is to treat them for their injuries and then release them back into the wild. Here are photos of some of our recuperation efforts.

Fox Squirrels in our Urban Neighborhoods

This is one of our favorite photos: 5 juvenile fox squirrels eating blueberries. We introduce them to a wide variety of foods so that when they are on their own they'll be able to forage successfully.

Squirrels prefer nuts over any other type of food, and in the fall you may see them running around your back garden burying acorns everywhere. Squirrels are great gardeners.

The Fox Feast: Here are two juvenile fox squirrels receiving home care.

The squirrel on the left has been labeled "lefty" because his left front paw was injured, requiring that two claws be clipped off at the joint.

He seems to be doing quite well and will eventually be released, when we are sure he can climb as well as he can eat.

Off they go after a successful rehabilitation!
